(Witness) Marriage License20 November 1801 John Thompstone witnessed the marriage license of John Thompstone and Olive Rathbone on 20 November 1801; The bond shows that John Thompstone of the parish of Gawsworth, Samuel Hill, Peter Fowles of Macclesfield in the Parish of Prestbury were bound in the sum of £500 on the 20 November 1801 that there was no lawful impediment to the marriage. John appeared in person and made allegation that he was of the age of twenty-one and upwards and a widower and intended to marry Olive Rathbone of the parish of Gawsworth aged twenty-one years and upwards and a spinster. The licence was for the marriage to be solemnized in the Parish Church of Gawsworth.1

Burial*1 March 1808 He was buried on 1 March 1808 at St James, Gawsworth, Cheshire, England, ; In Memory of John Thompstone of Gawsworth Mill who departed this life 25 Feb 1808 aged 66 years.
Also Ellen wife of the above named who departed this life 23 Mar 1811 aged 66 years.1 
Note*4 September 1809 He did not leave a will but Letters of Administration were granted to his wife Ellen. Ellen Thompstone widow and Samuel Swindells parish clerk both of Gawsworth and Peter Fowler sexton of Macclesfiled were bound in the sum of £200. On the 4 Sep 1809 Ellen took the usual oath of administratrix and made oath that the personal estate and effects of the intestate were under the value of £100. on 4 September 1809.1

He was one of the leading spirits in the erection of the Wesleyan School Hatton, which was also used as a chapel under the Warrington Circuit. On laying the foundation stone of the Hatton Wesleyan school on June 10th 1875, he was presented with a silver trowel, accompanied by a miniature mallet.8

Biography* “Buried in "a quiet corner of a peaceful village graveyard" (Hatton)

On moving to Hatton Mrs Bennett "found Methodism at a low ebb, services held in an upper room of an old disused mill. She was not satisfied until by personal effort she raised sufficient funds to build a pretty little gothic chapel, the foundation stone of which she had the honour of laying. She was of a loving and lovable disposition, and without any difficulty attracted all that was best in human nature to her. Her residence was open to both regular and lay preachers, who delighted to accept of her true Cheshire hospitality. On anniversary occasions her house was indeed an inn to visitors from the surrounding districts. Nor were the wants of the poor neglected. She believed that 'the liberal hand shall be made fat' and her practical charity knew no stint within her means. She lived that true and Christian life and her favourite verses were Isaiah 40:31 and 46:4 Of her it will be said "He giveth his beloved sleep" for she passed away peacefully at the close of a well spent life like a little child. After the funeral an impressive address was given, her favourite hymn, "A charge to keep I have" was sung by her family, followed by prayer " (Article "A veteran Methodist" )."
