Frank Burch
M, #1512, b. circa 1899, d. circa 1983
| Note* | | Frank Burch Also known as Sonny by his older brothers and sisters, and Mack after singing 'McNamara's Band' in his father's pub in Bootle as a child His grandparents were in service in Bremore House, Wiltshire, before they married and moved to Paignton. His grandfather died young, and left his wife with a large family, and she set up a market garden business above the cliffs. We visited the house his grandparents lived in, and he told us marvellous tales about his aunts' liaisons, with their boyfriends climbing in through the windows at night. He was apprenticed to a cobbler. Joined the Cheshire regiment under-aged in the 1914/18 war, and was taken as a prisoner of war to a camp in Hagen, in the industrial area of the Ruhr. He could tell a wonderful tale of his time in the war, and as a prisoner. He once escaped with some comrades, but returned to the camp when he couldn't find his way any further After the war he served again with the Cheshire regiment in Northern Ireland and India as a saddler, from his cobbling experience. Before retirement he was a clog maker with a large textile firm in Liverpool He and his wife, Annie, brought Anne Walmsley up after her mother died of flu in the early 1950s, and her father buried himself in his work in the fruit trade in Liverpool and Ireland Mac and Annie (Nan) were known to Sally and Edmund Swindell. |

- [S778] Bonnie Bertelsen, "Email from Bonnie Bertelsen," e-mail to Alan Bennett, 12 June 2006, I have been doing some additional research and have some information you may wish to add to your database. The third son of Edward Brellisford and Ann Jones, born c 1882 came to Canada sometime after 1903. His first wife Violet Mary Willett died in 1903 in England at age 19. There is an entry on the Free BMD for her death in Q2 1903, vol 8b, page 468. I have located a second marriage in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 14 Oct 1918. He married Euphemia Marie Switzer, age 38, born in Bobcageon, Ontario, Canada to Alvin Switzer and Margaret Embury. At the time of this marriage Robert John is listed as a widower, age 37, born in Broughton, Lancashire to parents Edward and Ann Jones. His occupation is listed as a cook and Euphemia is listed as a laundress and was a "spinster".
