Richard's occupation: 'Pan.' 1851: They were living at: 109 Stone Road, Blurton, Trenthan, Staffordshire. Richard's occupation: 'Chelsea Pensioner.' 1871: They were living at: Russell Street, Trentham, Staffordshire. Richard's occupation: 'Brickmaker.' (In 1871, Richard and Mary were living next to their daughter, Mary Ann Brough and her husband, Robert Evans.) For further information, see 1841 Census, FHL Film #474621; 1851 Census, FHL Film #87402; 1871 Census, FHL Film #836372. Richard Brough was '86 years old' when he was buried in 'the Parish of Dresden' on 'February 4, 1873' according to the FHL Film # 1470944, page 23. 2004 Research Note: There is an 'Alice Brough' listed on the IGI who was supposedly born in 'about 1843' in 'Longton, Lane End, St. John, Staffordshire, England' to Richard Brough and Mary Horleston. However, RBFO researchers have determined that this is not correct. For example, this 'Alice Brough' is not listed in the 1851 Census, RBFO researchers have not been able to find an Alice Brough listed in any Longton church/parish records. Also, Samuel R. Brough's 'Temple Records' do not include her name and she does not appear on any TIB records (in the Special Collections area of the Family History Library). Apparently, Alice Brough was mistakenly listed as 'Sealed to Parents' on 5 January 1922 in an earlier RBFO book (published in 1981), and this encouraged someone to later submit her name (in 1990) for LDS Ordinance work to the LDS Temple in Los Angeles, California, which now appears on the IGI. 2006 Research Note: In February 2006, Mark E. Gardner, a professional genealogist and reference consultant at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, discovered that Mary Horleston (or Hollistone or Horleston) apparently had 'two' sons prior to her marriage to Richard Brough. (Richard Brough served as a Gunner in the British Royal Artillery Service between 1805 and 1822 and spent most of his time in and around southern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. He was honorably discharged from the military on 1 January 1823.) Mary's first 'illegitimate' son was James Hollison, who was christened in Bucknall, Staffordshire, on June 30, 1816 (FHL Film # 426501, p.15, Bishop's Transcript; FHL Film # 1278889, Parish Transcript). Mary's second 'illegitimate' son (described as 'spurious' in the Bishop's Transcript) was John Hollison, who was christened in Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, on April 13, 1821 (FHL Film # 435854, p.211.) According to the 1841 British Census, James had left the household of Richard Brough and Mary Hollison by 1841, while John, then about 22 years old (in 1841), was still living with Richard Brough and Mary Hollison and their children in Longton, Staffordshire, England. However, John does not appear with the family in the 1851 British Census.1 |

Allred, an RBFO Genealogist, the LDS Ward Records for Randolph, Utah (FHL US/CAN Film # 0026439), identifies the birth date of Elizabeth Brough Tipton as '17 May 1834.' However, earlier family records listed it as 13 May 1834. It's difficult to say which one is correct without an actual birth certificate. Also, a 'History of Elizabeth Brough Tipton,' written by Delle Snowball McKinnon and obtained from the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, states the following: Elizabeth Tipton died at Randolph, Utah, February 15, 1896. Her funeral services were held February 18, 1896. ...After many years the wood markers rotted and the sun and rain washed away the names and dates [on the original tombstones of Enoch and Elizabeth Tipton]. So the neices and nephews of this good woman decided to each help and buy markers for the graves. So today the graves of this good woman and her husband are marked by granite markers.' According to Warren D. Brough, RBFO Genealogist (and published in the 1988 RBFO book, p.78), Elizabeth Brough was baptized a member of the LDS Church on 17 May 1847. This undoubtedly happened in the LDS Longton Branch of Staffordshire, England. Elizabeth Brough spelled the surname of her first husband as 'Cartlidge', as can be seen in the FHL Temple Index Bureau entry (Film # 184652, page 419) for Mary Jane Cartlidge that reads: 'Mary Jane Cartlidge, born 14 Dec 1857, Bellville, St. Clair, Illinois. Died 1858. Sealed to Enoch Tipton [stepfather] and Elizabeth Brough (Cartlidge) Tipton on 28 February 1895. Heir: Samuel R. Brough. Proxy: Emily E. Brough.' Gardner, a professional genealogist and reference consultant at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, discovered that Mary Horleston (or Hollistone or Horleston) apparently had 'two' sons prior to her marriage to Richard Brough. (Richard Brough served as a Gunner in the British Royal Artillery Service between 1805 and 1822 and spent most of his time in and around southern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. He was honorably discharged from the military on 1 January 1823.) Mary's first 'illegitimate' son was James Hollison, who was christened in Bucknall, Staffordshire, on June 30, 1816 (FHL Film # 426501, p.15, Bishop's Transcript; FHL Film # 1278889, Parish Transcript). Mary's second 'illegitimate' son (described as 'spurious' in the Bishop's Transcript) was John Hollison, who was christened in Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, on April 13, 1821 (FHL Film # 435854, p.211.) According to the 1841 British Census, James had left the household of Richard Brough and Mary Hollison by 1841, while John, then about 22 years old (in 1841), was still living with Richard Brough and Mary Hollison and their children in Longton, Staffordshire, England. Recent Research Findings: Marie B. Nielson, RBFO Genealogist, did extensive research on the Myatt line in 2003-2004, and discovered that the Broughs and Myatts have multiple family connections. For example, Rosannah Myatt's father was Thomas Myatt (b.1790). Thomas Myatt's parents were Thomas Myatt (b.1764) and Margaret Brough (b.1772). Margaret Brough's father was John Brough (b.1732). John Brough's (b.1732) father was John Brough (b.1705). John Brough's (b.1705) father was John Brough (b.1672). John Brough's (b.1672) father was Richard Brough (b.1620) of Kingsley and New Grange, Staffordshire, England.
